Keeping low or zero-balance accounts open so their credit history will remain intact is always a good idea when repairing your credit. Closing a long-standing accounts can hurt your credit score. To help prevent yourself from using the accounts, cut up and throw away most of your credit cards.
Pay off debts, check your credit score and watch how much it will rise. It is possible to get there if you can be responsible with your credit and keep your debt-to-income ratio down.
If you can become debt-free, put yourself on a budget and started saving the money that previously went toward debt payments.

Taking out 0 percent deals at the department stores right now, may not be a good idea. You will need to pay off those loans before the interest kicks in or you may have to pay a higher interest rate if not paid in full. Watch and stay within your budget this holiday season.
